The Knife gets down at the opera

Posted 28 Jan 2010 in Music

The Knife, best known for their catchy 2005 single Heartbeats, has teamed up with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock to create a soundtrack for an experimental opera based on Darwin’s On the Origin of Species called ‘Tomorrow, In A Year’, commissioned by the Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma. The single from the soundtrack, Colouring of Pigeons, was released a while ago and attracted a huge amount of attention on the music scene. In fact, it was already one of our songs of the day.

Today, The Knife has announced that the album is now available to stream straight from their website. It’s also now available to buy directly from the Rabid Records store as an mp3 download, or you can pre-order a copy of the CD and receive the download instantly. Tomorrow, the album will be available digitally through online stores such as iTunes. They’ve also announced a studio release date for the album, March 1, 2010.

Whether or not you listen to The Knife, these tracks are pretty legitimate. Check them out:

You can listen to a roundtable discussion featuring The Knife, Planningtorock, and Mt. Sims here. It’s pretty cool to hear what was going through their heads when they created such an inspired album.

You can also check out a trailer for the album here. Be warned, it’s really out there.
