Surfing The Void

It’s been a while since we last heard from Klaxons, but the UK alt-rockers recently dropped their sophomore album, Surfing the Void, on August 23rd. This LP is their follow up to 2007′s critically acclaimed Myths of the Near Future and the first new material released by the boys in 3 years. With so much time to craft their next record, my expectations for this one were pretty high. On Surfing the Void, Klaxons stay true to their unique style of frenetic, psychedelic melodies infused with a pop-punk sensibility that won them so much attention on their last album.

The album’s first single, ‘Flashover,’ premiered May 25th on BBC Radio 1, and in retrospect, it was a prefect selection to get people excited about their return. On this high energy anthem, Klaxons transition through several movements before finally arriving at a beautifully layered crescendo. Their versatility and skill take center stage here, and it’s clear that they have refined their musical formula since we last heard from them. With such a long layoff between projects, part of me expected some more groundbreaking material than what they delivered, but overall I definitely can’t complain about the result. I really enjoyed this album, here are a few tracks that I hope you’ll enjoy as well.
