Yeasayer @ Le National: May 2, 2010

This past Sunday (to some, Funday), we had the pleasure of seeing Yeasayer perform at Le National (we unfortunately only caught the end of Sleigh Bells, but we heard good things). I must admit, expectation were high for this show: we (the royal we) have grown to love both All Hour Cymbals and Odd Blood, and had heard a few rave reviews about their live performances from some respected sources (thank you McSandwhichewildes). So after a long trek down St. Cats (approximately 3 beers long), we reached the venue and ran inside. We made it into the actual concert hall just as Yeasayer was finishing their hellos and beginning the show. [read more here...]

Gogol Bordello @ Metropolis: April 18, 2010

Gogol Bordello, the Gypsy Punk rockers known around the world for their outrageous and energetic stage performances, brought their carnival-like live act to Metropolis on Sunday. I’d never seen them before, so needless to say I was stoked for the show. I’ve always heard that they put on an unreal concert, but I had know idea of just how crazy it was really going to be until I saw it for myself. [read more...]

Florence and the Machine w/ Holy Hail @ the TLA in Philadelphia: April 5, 2010

Florence + the Machine put on a mind-blowing, goosebump-inducing concert at the TLA in Philadelphia. We were devastated when we found out that they weren’t coming to Montreal, but I got extremely lucky and was able to catch them on the first night of their US tour. [read more here...]

Seabear @ The Green Room: March 30, 2010

We ventured up Saint Laurent to see Seabear perform at The Green Room. And holy shit, were we in for a fantastic surprise. We went expecting a quiet and intimate show, as we’d come to love fr0m the Icelandic band’s low-key recordings. What we got was even better: the seven piece group put on a gorgeous, high-energy performance for a packed (albeit small) bar. [read more...]

St. Vincent @ First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia: February 25, 2010

On Thursday the 25th, St. Vincent played a great concert in the Sanctuary of the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia. I was lucky enough to catch the show since I’m home on break. St. Vincent is Annie Clark, a phenomenal singer and guitar player. Backed by a very talented band, Annie had  a graceful stage presence that made it hard to look away. [read more...]

Phantogram @ Il Motore: February 21, 2010

We first heard the name Phantogram during our interview with The Antlers‘ Mike Lerner, who named their new album Eyelid Movies as one of three that he couldn’t stop listening to. Thanks to Mike, we can’t stop listening either. [read more...]

Daedelus w/  Jogger + Nosaj Thing @ Le Belmont: February 19, 2010

We had the opportunity to see button-master Daedelus perform with Nosaj Thing and Jogger at an intimate venue in Outremont. The smaller size of Le Belmont allowed for a more personal performance — the artists were able to interact with the crowd and work off of their energy. By the end of the night, performers and attendees alike were covered in sweat and wishing the clock could be turned back for another go. The Antlers w/ Golden Isles @ Il Motore: February 17, 2010

Brooklyn’s The Antlers headlined at Il Motore to a packed crowd. This was our first time seeing a show at this venue, and it was pretty incredible. Tiny, intimate, low stage, nice bar…perfect place for a concert. The crowd was totally chill and it made for a truly great musical experience. [read more...]

GZA/Genius @ Foufounes: January 27, 2010

We were lucky enough to see GZA, aka Genius, the founding father and mastermind behind the Wu Tang Clan, at Foufounes Electronique last night. For those of you who are unfamiliar with his work, the GZA is one of the most influential hip-hop producers and rappers of the last 20 years. [read more...]
