Interview w/ Sindri Sigfússon of Seabear

Posted 20 Mar 2010 in Interviews,Music

Earlier today, I had the chance to speak with Sindri Már Sigfússon, the founding member of Icelandic band Seabear. If you’ve never heard of Seabear, it’s time to listen up, because they’re looking to be Iceland’s next big, talented export. 2007′s The Ghost That Carried Us Away was a gorgeous album full of guitars and strings. With their new album, We Built a Fire, Seabear is finally getting the attention they deserve. “Lion Face Boy”, the first single from their new album, was named Song of the Day on NPR; an attached article compared them to “…a toned-down Sufjan Stevens — or an even more toned-down Arcade Fire”. Sounds pretty good to me.

Phoning from South by Southwest down in Austin, Sindri took out a few minutes to chat about balancing musical projects, Tom Waits, and just what makes Icelandic bands so damn appealing to the rest of the world. You can read the interview here, and have a listen to a couple tunes below.
