I Swear It’s Relevant…
Let me begin by outlining four of my favorite things in this world. First, there is the World Cup. As with most sports today, who plays on a given club team is not determined by birthplace or nationality. This does not impede team loyalty for any city, but I can’t help finding it odd cheering for Hasan Salihamidžić while supporting Juventus (my team from Torino, Italy). In the World Cup, though, each player must be born in or a citizen of the country that they play for, filling the games with unified, nationalistic pride and more satisfying victories. When cheering VIVA GLI AZZURRI!!!, I know that my cheers are with and for Italians. The second of these favorites, and a real love of my life, is Daft Punk. This French duo was my introduction to electronic music, and I have never forgotten it. Beginning with Discovery, Daft Punk stole my heart; most recently with Alive 2007, I realized I will probably never love that hard again. Daft Punk remains at the very top of my concert wishlist — Tron: Legacy (and hopefully Alive 2011) couldn’t come sooner. Third on this list, and still music related, is Snoop Dogg. I admit, I never listened to the Doggy Dog as religiously as some other rappers, but his demeanor and attitudes towards everything from the police to marijuana make me giggle, smile and nod. His cameos in movies and voice-overs in shows like The Boondocks never fail to make me laugh, and his music aint bad either. In summary, Snoop Dogg is the man. Last, but certainly not least, there is Star Wars. And just to be clear, I am referring to Episodes 4 through 6 — the ‘first’ three are simply 3-hour distractions from the plot with special effects and shitty characters, and if i ever have to listen to Jar Jar Binks again I will probably murder George Lucas. Anyway, there is nothing that I can say about The Great Trilogy that hasn’t already been said, except perhaps that my mother told me that I looked like a pink Yoda when I was born and I’ve never been so proud. So, when I happened across this Addidas commercial, I knew I had to share. Check it out:
I know, other than the celebrity cameos and that amazing Cantina band, this video had nothing to do with music. BUT HOW SWEET WAS THAT?! Snoop with a lightsaber! Daft Punk on the Millenium Falcon!! C’mon, who didn’t just cream their pants? Anyway, now I must justify this post. Here are some tunes:
