How to drink $1 beers on a Thursday and still feel good about yourself: Playing for Change benefit jam

Posted 17 Feb 2010 in Music

Tomorrow (Feb 18) at 5:30pm at McGill’s own Bar des Arts, there will be a jam session to promote Playing for Change. Playing for Change is a movement that uses music to bring peace to the world. Through various benefit performances around the globe, the organization has been able to build music and arts schools to bring inspiration and unity to communities  that are in need. This week, Bar des Arts is proud to present the launch party of Playing For Change at McGill.

At 5:30, there will be an open jam-session for anyone who wants to come out and collaborate with other musicians. It doesn’t matter what style, what instrument, what skill level, just bring your instrument and create some sick tunes with other music lovers. There will be some microphones, amps, and a drumset provided for your musical needs, although if you want to go acoustic that is totally cool.

So! Let’s get down to the really fun stuff. This is actually a very worth-attending event. If you’re not a musician, you should still come to listen and chill. Not only do you get two hours of jam-tasm, you also  have the fantastic options of:

  • Free snacks
  • $1 beers
  • $1.50 grilled cheese sandwiches (mmm…)
  • $2.50 shots and $3.50 mixed drinks of vodka and whiskey
  • A pool table
  • Comfy couches

If all of that isn’t incentive enough, there’s no cover! Although, make sure you bring your IDs young ones, 18+ ID is required.

It all goes down tomorrow (February 18) from 5:30pm-8:00pm in Bar des Arts, in the basement of Leacock Building at McGill (855 Sherbrooke Street West). Go take a break from midterms or celebrate our upcoming Reading Week* with cheap drinks, good company, and live music!

For more information, check out the local Playing for Change’s Facebook event and group.

*Our spring break is the third week of February. Way to fail, McGill.
