Ghostface Killah: Music Critic
For the past few years, living hip-hop legend Ghostface Killah has been releasing his annual list of the 10 softest rappers in the game. I will never forgive myself for not discovering these lists sooner. Not only is Ghost brutally honest and straightforward in his approach and analysis of the state of today’s hip hop, I absolutely love his style of writing in these posts. Crass it may be, but while reading this list you can almost hear his voice in the back of your head, giving his opinions a level of authenticity unmatched by anything you would see on your run-of-the-mill music blog.
That being said, it doesn’t hurt that the dude is absolutely hilarious. I wish Pitchfork or any other site would give him his own weekly column to rant about the state of hip hop or anything else his heart desires. There is no doubt in my mind that it would be an immediate hit.
I’m not sure if anything can top those lists, but Ghost’s review of Kanye and Jay Z’s latest opus Watch the Throne sure comes close. His take on the album is just as funny, but at the same time brilliantly candid and insightful. I can’t think of many people whose unbiased opinion of that album I would trust more than a man who’s been in this game for years and cemented himself as a fixture of the hip hop community. Do yourself a favor and read all of these ASAP, you’ll be glad you did.
