Flying Lotus

Electronic music is reaching new heights these days, in terms of both its popularity and the skill and creativity of its musicians. Flying Lotus, aka L.A-based producer Steven Ellison, is helping to blaze a new trail for electronic music by blending hip-hop inspired beats with a huge array of different tones, sounds and effects.  He has the unique ability to create a different musical experience with every track. FlyLo has a style all his own, seamlessly moving from ethereal synth tones overlaying minimal beats on one track to heavier dub-inspired bass lines on the next. His remixes are equally impressive; when he works with another artist’s song, he doesn’t just remix it, he completely re-invents it.

FlyLo’s experimental style draws from elements of just about every genre of electronic music you can think of, yet it also creates a sound all its own. His most recent, and critically acclaimed, album, Los Angeles (2008),  got attention from some big names in the music industry. He collaborated with Diplo on Free Gucci: Best of the Cold War Mixtapes and has announced that Thom Yorke of Radiohead will appear on his next album Cosmogramma. By the way, the album is set to release on 4/20 of this year (yessssss!!)

We have no idea what this guy will come up with next, but we’re definitely excited for 4/20.
