Happy Friday everyone. Just got back a few hours ago from seeing Flying Lotus and Lunice at Just For Laughs, and I’m happy to say that this show exceeded my already high expectations. Lunice got the crowd pumped up and ready to go by playing a great selection of hip hop tracks and showing off his formidable dance moves. He was a great opener, but it was Fly Lo who really brought down the house. He played off of the crowd to perfection, seamlessly switching between hip hop, dubstep, house, and electro, and he did it all with a huge grin on his face. The crowd demanded two encores, and Fly Lo seemed almost blown away by the overwhelming reception. A great time was had by all, and I can only hope that the rest of this weekend is as much fun.

Our first mixtape this week comes from emerging Parisian producer Canblaster. This Jetpack mixtape we have for you today is absolute fire, as is the rest of Canblaster’s work. I’m definitely keeping an eye out for anything of his that I can find, I suggest you do the same.

Jetpack Mixtape- Canblaster

Next up we have another installment of BBC Radio 1′s Essential Mix, and this one features British dance music giants The Count & Sinden. I was lucky enough to see Sinden this summer at the HARD tour in Philly, and the crowd absolutely loved his set.

And now your tracks for the weekend.

It’s been a while since we last heard from Klaxons, but the UK alt-rockers recently dropped their sophomore album, Surfing the Void, on August 23rd. This LP is their follow up to 2007′s critically acclaimed Myths of the Near Future and the first new material released by the boys in 3 years. With so much time to craft their next record, my expectations for this one were pretty high. On Surfing the Void, Klaxons stay true to their unique style of frenetic, psychedelic melodies infused with a pop-punk sensibility that won them so much attention on their last album.

The album’s first single, ‘Flashover,’ premiered May 25th on BBC Radio 1, and in retrospect, it was a prefect selection to get people excited about their return. On this high energy anthem, Klaxons transition through several movements before finally arriving at a beautifully layered crescendo. Their versatility and skill take center stage here, and it’s clear that they have refined their musical formula since we last heard from them. With such a long layoff between projects, part of me expected some more groundbreaking material than what they delivered, but overall I definitely can’t complain about the result. I really enjoyed this album, here are a few tracks that I hope you’ll enjoy as well.

It’s all coming to an end. A new year of classes begins today, and although I’m obviously sorry to see summer go, it’s time to get back to work and back to the grind. A new year means a new set of resolutions about getting my life on track, here’s hoping I don’t disregard them in a month. Getting back to business after weeks of freedom is never fun, but on the bright side, we have some great music coming through that will give everyone around here something to look forward to. In the immediate future, Flying Lotus will be at Just For Laughs on Thursday, and less than a week later Ratatat arrives at Metropolis in what’s sure to be a fantastic live show. Both artists recently released some new material that I’m really looking forward to hearing in person, so try not to be too bummed out about the end of summer. Here are a few tracks to keep you in the right mood. Peace.

What’s up everyone. Well we made it through Frosh, which in my opinion is a pretty impressive accomplishment. It was a pretty grueling few days, but there’s no better way to be welcomed back to our great city. Right now we’re in full recovery mode, which includes being as lazy as humanly possible, possibly with a trip to tam tams thrown in just for good measure. Got some good music for you today, including a new track from Freddie Gibbs produced by LA Riots and some new dubstep for all you bassheads out there. So enjoy the tracks and stay lazy y’all.

Happy Friday everyone. Frosh is currently upon us, which means I’m writing this post on about two hours total sleep over the last three days. Hey, it’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it. So enjoy the tunes, have a great weekend and if you’re also involved with Frosh, go hard tomorrow because we’re almost at the end.

Our mixtape this week is from one of my favorites: Elite Force. This rip of his set at Burning Man blows me away, hope you enjoy it as well.

We’re baaack. It took seven hours of driving through the rain and a two-and-a-half hour wait at the border, but we’ve finally made our triumphant return to our beloved Montreal. Summer was great, but it’s time to return to school and our old routine, which means we’ll be significantly busier in the coming few months. We hit the ground running right away as we eagerly anticipate what’s sure to be an insane night with Datsik tonight at Foufunes Electronique.

We also hope you’re all getting geared up for September, because it’s going to be a pretty packed couple of weeks. Flying Lotus, Ratatat, Dirty Projectors, Vampire Weekend, Vitalic, AutoErotique, Best Coast, and Holy Fuck will all be stopping through, along with quite a few more. So get excited, because it’s time to get ready for Frosh and a month full of great music. Now, here are a few songs to get you in the right frame of mind.

Philadelphia may not be a city known for it’s electro scene, but you never would have known based off of the turnout for the HARD Tour on Wednesday. The Electric Factory was packed with electro fans, grateful for the chance to finally get down to some dirty beats in the city of brotherly love. Destructo opened, followed by a long set by Sinden to get the crowd excited. Towards the end of it, Rusko joined Sinden on stage for a few tracks. After that, there was then a bit of a wait until Rusko appeared for his own set. From the beginning, it was clear that Rusko was a natural performer. Even on top of a huge setup of lights, his stage presence was undeniable. His British accent rang through the crowd, getting everyone hyped up with cries of “This is for all you Philly dubsteppers!”. A particular highlight was his mix of “Hold On”, the single featuring Amber Coffman from his most recent EP, O.M.G.

After Rusko, you could feel the anticipation rising for Crystal Castles. When they finally took the stage, the entire Electric Factory went nuts. They opened with “Fainting Spells”, and that was only the beginning of a ridiculous set. Alice Glass dominated the stage, screaming/singing over top of glitchy beats. She had her typical fifth of whiskey on stage with her, but she still had complete control over her audience. At one point crowd surfing and at another throwing her mic into the crowd, Alice was one of the most both entertaining and intense performers I’ve ever seen. It also almost seemed unreal that so much complex sound was coming from just her and Ethan Kath, only backed by a drummer. Despite an exhausting night of dancing, the crowd raged throughout the entire performance. They wrapped things up with an awesome version of “Black Panther”, and my only complaint about the show is that there wasn’t an encore. In short, HARD Tour was one of the best electro events I’ve been to, here’s hoping it continues next year.

Have a listen to some of our favorite Rusko and CC tracks and remixes below.
