Dilla Joints

In 2006, the Hip Hop community lost one of its most influential and highly regarded producers, J Dilla. Over the course of his career, Dilla produced a few of his own albums, but what set him apart was his work with his fellow hip hop artists. Up until his death, he collaborated with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Pete Rock, Busta Rhymes, Common and many more . His immense influence on hip hop since the 1990s has spawned a considerable amount of tribute projects since his death, the most recent being Dilla Joints from Philly hip-hop legends The Roots.

Dilla Joints features 14 instrumental tracks crafted by Dilla himself and performed with the added funk of ?uestLove, Cap’n Kirk and the rest of the Roots crew. Throughout the album, the Roots perfectly capture the jazz and soul influence that Dilla brought to mid-90s hip hop and create an album full of intricate and very chill melodies. Dilla Joints is a fitting tribute to a true hip hop legend.
