Damn You Mongolians!
No offense, of course, is meant to any Mongolian readers that may be out there. The title of the post is simply a reference to one of our favorite up-and-coming dubsteppers, Damn You Mongolians. DYM has had several remixes that have caught my ear lately, so I decided to do a little digging and see where the sound was coming from. Turns out DYM is Steve Southern, an electro artist/producer based out of northeast England. He’s only been putting out material under the name for about a year, but already his remixes of Passion Pit and Two Door Cinema Club have taken off on the blogosphere. I recently stumbled upon DYM’s remix of Alphabeat’s ‘DJ’, and I’ve had it on repeat for days now. Said Southern of the track:
“The Alphabeat remix came about from a bit of a running joke between our group of friends. We kept sticking their track ‘Fascination’ in between grimey dubstep on mix CDs at house parties just for its full on cheese value. It was always a drunken highlight! In the end I thought it would be worth doing a straight up remix, it gets our ‘Danish Pop Fingers’ waving every time!”
So there you have it. Check out the song below, as well as some bonus DYM tracks.
