HARD Tour @ Electric Factory 08/18/2010
For more awesome photos of the show, be sure to check out our friend The Calcutta Blog. Philadelphia may not be a city known for it’s electro scene, but you never would have known based off of the turnout for the HARD Tour on Wednesday. The Electric Factory was packed with electro fans, grateful for the chance to finally get down to some dirty beats in the city of brotherly love. Destructo opened, followed by a long set by Sinden…
Chromeo @ the Trocadero 07/27/2010
“Ohh ohh ohh, CHRO-ME-O!” was the chant that rang out through the Trocadero on Tuesday. You guessed it, it was a Chromeo show, and the audience couldn’t wait for the electrofunk duo. Holy Ghost! opened up the show, and after a semi-long wait, Chromeo took the stage. The Montreal natives blew it out of the water, playing tracks off their hit album Fancy Footwork, as well as the new stuff that’s out from the upcoming Business Casual, to be released…
The Henry Clay People/Metric/Against Me!/Silversun Pickups @ Great Plaza 06/28/2010
On Monday, Radio 104.5 presented a summer show featuring a diverse group of bands. I was lucky enough to win tickets to the show the night of, thanks to The Henry Clay People. Check out a review of each of the acts, some mp3s, and a ton of photos below. The Henry Clay People opened the show with a rousing rock set. Brothers Joey and Andy Siara lead the five-piece up and coming group. Playing a guitar- and drum-heavy set,…
Interpol @ Crocodile Rock Cafe 06/25/2010
Last night, Interpol played a concert that could only be described as astounding. The venue was Crocodile Rock Cafe, a medium-sized spot in Allentown, PA. Openers Twin Tigers set the tone for the show nicely. Interpol have been on my must-see list for years, and since this is perhaps their last tour, there was no way I was missing it. There was some ridiculous bouncer vs. camera action about a minute into Interpol’s set, but below you can check out…
Bonnaroo Recap Part 3: Saturday June 12, 2010
Saturday of Bonnaroo brought us more amazing music than we could ever have hoped. We’ll get straight to the point with this post, and describe some of our favorite moments of the day. Beitcher’s Highlights: Saturday was probably my favorite day of the festival. From beginning to end, the day was jam packed with amazing acts such as The Melvins, The Dead Weather, Stevie Wonder, Thievery Corporation, Jay-Z, Weezer and, of course, Deadmau5 (just to name a few.) Weezer: I…
Bonnaroo Recap Part 2: Friday June 11, 2010
After about 45 minutes of sleep, I awoke on Friday to find a stacked lineup for the day. Friday marked the first full day of the festival, and I couldn’t believe how much awesome music was being thrown at me. The Gossip, Damian Marley and Nas, The National, Kings of Leon, The Flaming Lips, The Black Keys, and Chromeo were only a few of the day’s amazing sets. My personal favorites were Tokyo Police Club, Bassnectar, and LCD Soundsystem. Tokyo…
Bonnaroo Recap Part 1: Thursday June 10, 2010
There’s a lot to say when trying to recap a festival as massive as Bonnaroo, but we’ll do our best to give all of you an idea of what it was like. We’ll be outlining our personal highlights from each day over the course of our next few posts. First up is Thursday, Bonnaroo’s opening afternoon and night. The madness began before we even got onto the festival grounds with a traffic line of epic proportions. Roughly 40 miles of…
Arcade Fire @ Place Longueuil parking lot 06/09/2010
Last Wednesday, Montreal-based Arcade Fire played a free show right outside the city in a Longueuil Shopping Mall’s parking lot for nearly 10,000 fans. Frontman Win Butler expressed the band’s astonishment at the humbling and overwhelming crowd, thanking everyone from the fans for coming, to the city of Montreal for supporting the band for the past seven years, to Osheaga for allowing them to play a free show less than two months before they headline the Montreal festival. Clearly touched…
LCD Soundsystem @ Metropolis 05/24/2010
Last Monday we had the pleasure of seeing Holy Ghost! and LCD Soundsystem live at Metropolis. We arrived to the venue in time to see Holy Ghost! play through their recent EP, Static on the Wire. The first thing that struck me about their performance was their stage set up, which was impressive to say the least. To create their signature dreamy synth waves, the boys from Brooklyn employ a lot of old school equipment, and for a small band…
Grum + The Twelves @ Le Belmont 05/01/2010
Grum and The Twelves threw down for a packed crowd at Le Belmont on Saturday night. With the main acts not coming on until late, opener Le Matos got the audience pumped. It wasn’t too difficult a feat, since everyone has been in full-on party hardy mode since finals ended. Things got into full swing as soon as Grum came on. Playing an extremely danceable set, he was also a fun artist to watch; he was clearly engaged in his…
