Brothers
The Black Keys, expert blues rockers and favorites on TNM, officially released their newest LP, Brothers, yesterday, May 18th. Any hype surrounding the album’s release was slightly diminished by the fact that it leaked almost a month early, but nonetheless, Brothers exceeds every expectation we had of the newest project from Dan Auerbach (vocals, guitar) and Patrick Carney (drums, production.) Considering the simplicity of their instrumentation, the Black Keys have released an impressive amount of material since 2002′s The Big Come Up, and they’ve done so without losing touch with their classic blues roots. Auerbach’s guitar riffs and heavy distortion bring a raw and emotional edge to the duo’s songs; an edge that has become all too rare in today’s rock music.
Musically, The Black Keys continue to validate the old idiom that “less is more.” Their formula is so simple, yet they never fail to keep us coming back for more. Their most recent project prior to Brothers was 2009′s Blakroc, a project in which they asserted their versatility by collaborating with some of the biggest names in hip-hop such as Raekwon, Mos Def, Q-Tip and Pharoahe Monch (to name a few.) Here are a few songs from Brothers as well as one of our favorites from their Blakroc project.
