Big news for The National

Posted 25 Jan 2010 in Music

Well here’s some music news that has definitely made my day a whole lot better. Brooklyn’s finest, The National, have announced a 2010 tour as well as an upcoming album. The follow-up to 2007′s brilliant Boxer is still untitled, but they’ve announced a May release on 4AD records. Hopefully a new single will follow this announcement soon.

If you’re unfamiliar with The National, you may know more about them than you think. Two members of the band, Aaron and Bryce Dessner, were the producers of the amazing 2009 benefit compilation Dark Was the Night, featuring the likes of Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Feist Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver), Yeasayer, Spoon, and pretty much every other quality name in music that you can think of. Additionally, Bryce Dessner is the co-curator of the Big Ears Festival in Tennessee this March, which is where the band will kick off their tour. I’m a huge National fan, so I’ve picked out some tracks that I hope anyone, whether new to their music or not, will enjoy. It was hard to choose just a couple, so I seriously suggest downloading a few of their albums and having a good listen.

Apartment Story – The National

Daughters of the Soho Riots – The National

Mr. November – The National

The Thrilling of Claire – The National (I swear I don’t like this song just because it has an awesome name in the title)

I saw The National last year at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. It was a pretty good time; they played some new songs that sounded promising, Matt Berninger was absolutely smashed, and the crowd loved it. Here are the tour dates if you’re interested in checking them out. Pre-sale tickets will be available starting tomorrow, January 26th. Here’s hoping that I make it home in time from school to see them play in Philly on June 5.
