This intensely trippy picture is courtesy of Deadmau5′s facebook page. This is the setup he used at Coachella this year, oh how I wish I was there instead of stuck in the library… Anyway, I got my first exam today, so unfortunately I don’t have time to write a proper post. In the meantime here are a few tunes that I picked up over the weekend while I wasn’t writing essays, reading articles I don’t care about or drinking too…

Happy Record Store Day!

recordstoreday

As some of you may know, today is Record Store Day, a day when the entire music industry gets out to promote local vinyl and CD shops where people actually go and spend their hard-earned money in exchange for music. (I know, weird right?) How do we celebrate Record Store Day you ask? Well to start with, hundreds of artists looking to support music stores around the world release brand new material today for us to enjoy. Some record stores…

Mixtape Fridays

Well the toughest two weeks of the year are upon us. Instead of enjoying the weather and soaking up some sun, we’re confining ourselves to the library and putting the fun on hold for a few days. But don’t get too stressed, remember that this is the last push before the sweet freedom that comes with summertime in Montreal. We know spending too much time staring at a textbook or listening to missed lectures can really wear you down, so…

This trip they call university is flying by far too quickly. Yesterday marked the last day of classes for spring semester, ushering in two weeks of hell called Finals. Finals are a time of sleep deprivation followed by over-caffeination, when your schedule is determined by library operating hours and nearly every conversation begins and ends with “Fuck Finals.” To help you stay sane during this trying and terrible time, here are a few study tunes sure to keep your head…

New Single: Crystal Castles

Screeching, angry, grimy, dirty…these are the best adjectives I can come up with to describe the new single from Toronto glitch-rockers Crystal Castles. Although their new single, Doe Deer, clocks in at just under two minutes long, it still captures all the energy and intensity that Crystal Castles bring to their live performances. We can’t wait to see them in person as they headline the HARD tour this summer along side dub-master Rusko. So here it is, the new single…

Dilla Joints

In 2006, the Hip Hop community lost one of its most influential and highly regarded producers, J Dilla. Over the course of his career, Dilla produced a few of his own albums, but what set him apart was his work with his fellow hip hop artists. Up until his death, he collaborated with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Pete Rock, Busta Rhymes, Common and many more . His immense influence on hip hop since the 1990s has spawned…

We have some pretty exciting stuff for you today. Up first are two brand spankin’ new tracks courtesy of LCD Soundsystem, from their upcoming album This Is Happening. “Dance Yrself Clean” is the near nine-minute album opener, while “Change” is catchy, classic LCD Soundsystem. The album drops May 18, but you can pre-order it here. The group will be stopping by Metropolis here in Montreal on May 24…definitely a show you don’t want to miss…

Cymbals Eat Guitars + Bear In Heaven @ Il Motore: April 7th, 2010

This past Wednesday we stopped by the relatively new indie club, Il Motore, to check out two bands that have been making waves in the indie rock circles lately. Both Cymbals Eat Guitars and Bear in Heaven have received “best new music” from Pitchfork and various other glowing reviews. There was an excited buzz in the crowd to see what these bands were capable of live. We arrived just on time for Bear In Heaven’s set. I had only just…

Ahhh, another lazy Sunday. It’s hard to believe we’re already well into April…all this laziness sure makes time fly. Finals are coming up way too soon, but for now we’re clinging to the very last bit of lazy living we can possibly afford. In that spirit, we’ve spent the past few days not studying, but blogging and scouring the web for more music. Today, we’ve got a big batch of those songs for you to enjoy on your well-deserved day…

The xx @ Metropolis: April 3rd, 2010

The power of the blogosphere can be a very under-appreciated thing. When used correctly, it can lead an unknown project from the underground to millions of hard-drives overnight. This was exactly the case as The xx brought their brand of atmospheric, down-tempo rock to Montreal. The band was virtually unknown when their debut album dropped in August of 2009, but thanks to the web The xx saw their first headlining show in Canada entirely sold out. In fact, the band…
