Lazy Sunday Vol. #: Too Lazy to Count

Posted 14 Mar 2010 in Music

Finally Sunday has come around, and we’ve got nothing remaining (we know how you feel: Confound! Look outside, it’s raining!) But the work from the weekdays is finished, and the partying from the weekend is done. My will to do anything diminished, so it’s time to just sit on my bum. And to facilitate your chilling, here’s a bunch of tunes. It should help with your thrilling, Lazy Sunday afternoons. Silvia – Miike Snow The Rain – Calvin Harris Ikoyi…

Song and Video of the Day

Posted 11 Mar 2010 in Music

Last night we had the pleasure of seeing turntable wizard turned singer-songwriter RJD2 at Le Tulipe. I won’t say too much about it now, but he put on an extraordinary performance complete with a DJ set, a live band, finger puppets and, to quote RJ, “the loudest round of applause I’ve ever gotten.” Needless to say, we can’t wait to go through our pictures. We’ll be posting those pictures as well as our take on the show in the next…

American Ghetto, as heard by the McGill Ghetto

Posted 09 Mar 2010 in Music

Portugal. The Man has just released their newest album, American Ghetto, on Equal Vision records, marking the beginning of a North American tour. This LP makes 6 full length albums on top of 5 EPs for the band since 2005, but American Ghetto comes across as little more than an attempt to simply beef up an already stacked discography. Don’t get me wrong, American Ghetto will serve anyone looking for a new Portugal. The Man fix; the album is rife with hazy-jazz guitar-riffs as well as…

R.I.P Biggie

Posted 09 Mar 2010 in Music

Today marks the 13th anniversary of the day that Christopher Wallace, better known as the Notorious B.I.G, was shot and killed in the middle of a busy Los Angeles street. We thought this called for a quick post in memory of the greatest MC of all time. R.I.P Ready to Die- Notorious B.I.G. Gimme The Loot- Notorious B.I.G. Party and Bullshit (Ratatat Remix)- Notorious B.I.G.

Plastic Beach

Posted 06 Mar 2010 in Music

Animated British rock band The Gorillaz will release their 3rd studio album, Plastic Beach, tomorrow, March 8th. On this album, the Gorillaz treat their listeners to a musical tour of Plastic Beach, the band’s animated hideaway. This tour kicks off with a grand orchestral introduction that gives way to a mellow bassline and the smooth voice of none other than Snoop Dogg himself inviting us to the island, on the aptly named track: ‘Welcome to the World of the Plastic…

Interview w/ Amanda Blank

Last Monday, I had the pleasure of talking to my hometown of Philly’s own Amanda Blank. During the interview, she discusses collaborating with everyone from Diplo to the Cool Kids to Lykke Li. She also shares her love for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and hanging out with the girls. Among her favorite artists? Neil Young, Matt & Kim, and you guessed it…Dolly Parton. Basically, she’s awesome. Czech the interview out here, and some mp3s below. Might Like You Better (Rusko…

Another week is drawing to a close, which means we finally get a chance to blow off some steam. Like we mentioned earlier this week, there’s a lot coming up in the near future to look forward to. Next week RJD2, YACHT, Neon Indian, Muse and Tiga will all be coming through town, not to mention Drop the Lime, Classixx and Harvard Bass at Blog Wars. There’s gonna be a lot to keep us busy this month, so keep checking…

Phantogram @ Il Motore 02/21/2010

Posted 03 Mar 2010 in Music

We first heard the name Phantogram during our interview with The Antlers‘ Mike Lerner, who named their new album Eyelid Movies as one of three that he couldn’t stop listening to. Thanks to Mike, we can’t stop listening either. Last Sunday, I had the chance to sit down with the band for a quick chat, and then see them perform. As if Il Motre wasn’t small enough, the show was made incredibly intimate by the less-than-overwhelming turnout. With students away…
