News From Passion Pit
The growing influence of blogs on the music industry is undeniable, and there are few better examples of a band thriving due to blog exposure than Passion Pit. The small Cambridge, Mass. band started innocuously enough, but once their first single ‘Sleepyhead’ hit the blogosphere it quickly spread all over Hype Machine, garnering the band worldwide exposure in only a few weeks. Not so long ago, bands like Passion Pit had to fight to get their music on the radio,…
Interview w/ Sindri Sigfússon of Seabear
Earlier today, I had the chance to speak with Sindri Már Sigfússon, the founding member of Icelandic band Seabear. If you’ve never heard of Seabear, it’s time to listen up, because they’re looking to be Iceland’s next big, talented export. 2007′s The Ghost That Carried Us Away was a gorgeous album full of guitars and strings. With their new album, We Built a Fire, Seabear is finally getting the attention they deserve. “Lion Face Boy”, the first single from their…
Songs and video of the day
First up, in the spirit of Hot Chip’s awesome new video, we have a throwback to their excellent Made in the Dark with an L.A. Riots vs. Villains remix of “Ready for the Floor”. Ready for the Floor (LA Riots vs Villains Remix) – Hot Chip This next one is a remix I’ve listened to a lot lately, it’s super catchy and adds in female vocals to Miike Snow’s Burial. Burial (Benny Blanco Remix ft. Neon Hitch) – Miike Snow…
Mixtape Fridays: Week 9
We have an extra large installment of Mixtape Fridays lined up for you this week. Why is it bigger than normal you ask? Well for starters we’re currently getting ready to go berserk at the Woodwork festival tonight. This event is complete with enough world-class DJs (Kid, Aloha, Love Thy Brother, Brodinski, Nero, Sound of Stereo, Laidback Luke, Calvin Harris) to keep us half-deaf for a week, just the way we like it. Before we get to the music, I’d…
It’s Too Bright to Go Outside…
Thank you Saint Patrick, patron saint of wicked hangovers! We have been sitting around all day doing nothing. So enjoy a few of the videos we stumbled across. First up we have Hot Chip’s new video for “I Feel Better”. It’s really a winner. Next up we have the video for the Erykah Badu and Lil Wayne collaboration “Jump in the Air (Stay There)”. It’s quite trippy, so if you’re still nauseous, be careful. Here’s a fun one: It’s called…
Happy St. Patty’s
Yes that magical day has arrived once again. We decided to put this post up early because during the day we won’t be able to type. In fact, we probably won’t even be able to walk. So get out and enjoy your day of public drinking (and of course the ensuing shenanigans). Cheers! Drunken Lullabies – Flogging Molly Drinkin’ Reel Big Fish Alcohol – Gogol Bordello I Was Drunk (ft. Noze) – Riva Starr Hurricane Drunk – Florence + the Machine…
Fang Island
Fang Island, the latest quintet to emerge from Brooklyn, has just released their debut, self-titled album this past February on Sargent House records. The recommendation comes from this guy who draws a comic, and he thinks it’s easily one of the best albums of the year (so far). The band describes their music as “everyone high-fiving everyone… [the] songs are like the music in your head at that moment when everything feels just right: that first kiss, that high score…
Songs and video of the day
Time for the songs and video of the day! We have a pretty interesting mix for all of you today. Two – The Antlers…I know that we’ve covered The Antlers a lot lately, but this is one song I just can’t get out of my head…soo good. Darker Days – AM Excuses – The Morning Benders And for the video of the day, we have this vid of The National premiering the first song of their upcoming LP, High Violet,…
Wu Massacre
Wu Massacre, the latest collaboration between Method Man, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, has been in limbo for some time. Originally slated for a December 22nd release date, disputes between Wu and their label Def Jam kept this one the back burners for a while. Because Def Jam held its release for so long, individual tracks slowly began to leak, and the full album will now be released on March 30th. Meth was recently quoted saying of the album: “Def Jam put a…
Martin from Real Estate phones in
Last night, March 13, Real Estate played at Club Lambi. As much as we would have liked to, we weren’t able to catch the show. We did, however, have the opportunity last week to chat with Real Estate singer/guitarist Martin Courtney. He discussed pop music, playing house parties, and his love for his friends’ music. Check out the interview here, and some tracks from the band below. Suburban Dogs – Real Estate Beach Comber – Real Estate Younger Than Yesterday…
