My Propeller

My Propeller, the newest EP from Brit-rock virtuosos the Arctic Monkeys, came out March 23rd on Domino Records. The EP has 4 new tracks, leftovers from the band’s most recent album Humbug produced by Josh Homme (the man/psychopath behind Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal.) The singles ‘My Propeller’ and ‘Dont Forget Whose Legs You’re On’ offer a change of pace from the band’s normally up-beat style by featuring  a darker, almost brooding tone from lead…

boniver

Remember when you couldn’t get the dreamy falsetto of Bon Iver‘s “Skinny Love” out of your head? I definitely do. I recently stumbled upon an awesome live version of “For Emma” featuring the Eau Claire Memorial Jazz Band. It’s a great, jazzy take on the song. Speaking of 2009 favorites, also check out one of his tracks from the excellent Dark Was The Night compilation. And for a real treat, have a listen to the “Re: Stacks” remix, it takes…

Lazy Sundays

This weekend brought plenty of excitement to Montreal, and as a result, we’re feeling especially sluggish today. Here’s an extra-lazy, extra-large, and extra-assorted installment of Lazy Sundays to help you recuperate… Maps (TGIK Remix) – Yeah Yeah Yeahs (thanks to Young Creature for the track) [Audio clip: click 'read more' to listen/download] Remedy ft. F*ck The Police

This past Thursday we had the opportunity to see Lazer Sword, Flying Lotus, and Benga at the S.A.T. After a rather sloppy set from Lazer Sword, Flying Lotus came on and rocked his signature hip-hop-influenced electro mixed with some wicked bass. However, during FlyLo’s set, somebody (supposedly by the same person) called the cops 4 times with complaints about the epic bass, and as a result the SAT was forced to turn it down for Benga. As it turns out, dubstep…

It’s been a while since we’ve heard new material from indie superstars Broken Social Scene, but luckily we won’t have to wait too much longer. Their newest album, Forgiveness Rock Record, drops May 4th on Arts & Crafts. And as if that news wasn’t  good  enough, BSS also released the album’s first 3 singles, ‘All to All,’ ‘World Sick’ and ‘Forced to Love,’ giving us an early taste of what we can expect from their new LP. All To All-…

Mixtape Fridays

March has been a pretty wild month for us so far and we’re sad to see it drawing to a close. But don’t worry, the party isn’t over yet. The Neon Festival is in full swing, and last night we got the chance to see Benga, Flying Lotus and Lazer Sword throw down for a packed house at the S.A.T. Fly Lo played a great set, but unfortunately some sound issues at the venue kept Benga’s set surprisingly un-satisfying. Hopefully…

“In a world full of critical situations and boiling discussions, one has to stand up and be heard. Acquired with a heating passion, his philosophy about the world and Anarchy does not know any boundaries. Doing this so by mingling hard music – created from the heart, resulting in pounding techno music, sharply distorted and heavy basses, screaming voices and a large dose of drugs running through the body – powerful opinions – shared at interviews, published on his site…

The Optimist

theoptimist

British synth-pop specialists New Young Pony Club recently released their second album, The Optimist. This is their follow up LP to 2007’s Fantastic Playroom, where they delivered catchy synths and danceable music that was simple, but very easy to like. The album’s title track definitely comes through with their signature sound , as does most of their second album, which does little to branch out or expand on their original style.   However, on ‘Stone,’ one of the highlights of the…

A few weeks ago we mentioned that Deadmau5 had been experimenting with dubstep. Well it turns out he was working on a lot more than that. His new remix of ‘Watercolor’ by Pendulum is too good not to share immediately. Enjoy (we know you will!) Watercolour (Deadmau5 Remix)- Pendulum [Audio clip: click 'read more' to listen/download]

mgmt

Well it’s finally here. The much-anticipated follow up album Congratulations from psychedelic rock duo MGMT hit the inter-tubes a few days ago, and they wanted to make sure we heard it from them first. So for us, the listeners, MGMT is streaming the whole album for free at Whoismgmt.com, similar to what Radiohead did with In Rainbows a few years back. I love the idea of bands giving their music directly to the listeners, and I hope that we’ll be…
