U2 Remixes: a vast improvement over U2
I never thought I would say this, but U2 has actually done something that I’m genuinely interested in. Artificial Horizons features 13 remixes of U2’s songs from their last 4 albums, Pop, All That You Can’t Leave Behind, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and last year’s No Line on the Horizon. To their credit, they did it big, signing on the likes of Hot Chip, Fred Falke, Justice and…Trent Reznor? Yea I had to read that twice when I…

Mixtape Fridays: Week 3
If last Friday’s turnout at Igloofest is any indication, we can say with confidence that Dubstep is quickly exploding in popularity. A lot of you who are hearing it for the first time might be saying to yourselves: “yea its cool music, but how the hell are you supposed to dance to it?” It’s a valid question, but your friends at The New Montreal are here to help. This may be my favorite YouTube video ever, it will teach you…
SXSW begins to release line-up
The music portion of South by Southwest, the enormous, legendary, indie of all indie festivals, will be held from March 17-21, 2010 in Austin, Texas. They’ve started to release their line-up, and so far, so good. Officially known as the South by Southwest Music and Media Conference, 2010 marks the 24th anniversary of the huge independent music networking event. All in all, about 2,000 up-and-coming artists perform on 80 stages to showcase their talents to basically the entire music industry….
The Strokes are in the studio
It’s taken four years, but it looks like The Strokes are finally coming back! Just two months after the New York City garage rock kings-in-hiding appeared as headliners on both the Rockness the Isle of Wight festivals, frontman Julian Casablancas announced that the band was back in the studio recording material for a fourth album set to release sometime this year. Their website sort of gives it away too… Is This It – The Strokes The End Has No End – The Strokes Heart…
Romance is Boring
If you’re a fan of Los Campesinos!, then you know that their style is difficult to put your finger on. They manage to blend catchy singsong melodies with brilliantly unintelligible lyrics, all the while keeping a more raw edge than your average pop band. In their newest album Romance is Boring, they expertly showcase how much they’ve grown as musicians since their first release. This is pretty impressive considering that their first album, Hold On Now Youngster…, came out just…
One Life Stand
British electropop stars Hot Chip are set to release their new album One Life Stand on February 8th, but thanks to the internet, we got it a little bit early. Compared to their previous LPs, One Life Stand is a more mellow and basic approach to the Hot Chip sound. This time around, they rely heavily on house-y synthesizers and keyboard effects for the rhythm rather than their usual (and to me, more interesting) intricate percussion beats. One Life Stand…
Song(s) and video of the day
The increasing popularity of electronic music over the last few years has brought with it an incredible amount of innovation in a short time. Genres are evolving faster than ever, as more and more producers look to make their mark on the quickly emerging electro market. Huoratron (pronounced whore-a-tron) is another step in this evolution, but his music is like nothing you’ve heard before. Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, a region usually known for its huge death-metal scene, Huoratron has managed…

Midterms!!! NOTTTTTTTTT I’m currently cramming (or not, you decide) for a neuroscience midterm this afternoon, but there’s a lot going on and I thought I’d give a little preview of what you can expect to hear from us later on today. First off, I got an email from Broken Social Scene’s PR guys with a heads up that BSS will be releasing their new album March 4. There are tons of guest appearances and stuff for old-school BSS fans, so…
